When using Enterprise Manager to restore a database on SQL7 SP3, the program stops responding for several (5-10) minutes before the restore dialog box appears. This can be replicated on both the server and from remote workstation with Enterprise Manager. Does anyone know a fix or cause of this behavior?

I've seen cases where it was slow if you had a large number of db's or a lot of backup history (or both).

I have also had this problem with 7 when restoring from tape. Had to read the tape for verifitcation of what backups were on it I believe.

I too faced a similar problem while restoring a SQL 7.database. The reason was the database i took the backup had the size defined as 1 gb datafile and 500mb log file..
while restoring this back up to a new database SQL actually took time to create the file of the same size...Possible you are too facing similar problem...

I've had this issue on SQL Server 2K as well. It seems sporadic and I can't pinpoint why. I do have multiple drives mapped, some to different domains, but I haven't really traced it down.
It also occurred on my SQL2K, SP1 server, which has no drives mapped.
