Restore from Redgate backup

  • I have some questions about Redgate backup for SQL Server 200 and 2005.

I have a need to get Redgate compressed, encrypted backups from another company and restore them on our servers. These will be a one time transfers, so I don’t really want to purchase Regate backup for one-time use.

Does Redgate have a utility to take compressed, encrypted backups files and create a regular SQL Server backup files? Is there another way to restore them to our servers without buying Redgate backup?

  • You could get a trial version of Redgate. Redgate also has a utility to convert their backups into "normal" backups, which you could do with your trial copy in case you need them after the trial expires, or the other company could do before sending them to you.

Maybe some Redgate experts will have other ideas.

We have a requirement to have the backups encrypted while they are being transfered, so having them un-encrypted at the other end is not an option.

Is there a way to get the convert utility and use it without having to install the trail version?

  • Can the other party convert to a standard backup file and then encrypt using a non-proprietary, non-red gate method?

I don't know. Maybe you should contact Redgate.
