Restore Data only without Backup

  • hi Guys..

i don't know i m stupid or somthing.. but somehow i deleted my company very improtant data.. and more over i hvn't take the backup of database..

Please help me out if any one of you guys know how can i recover the data.. i don't have a single back of this database...

    Thanks .....

  • If the database uses the full recovery model you could try one of the log reader/recovery tools. I hear RedGate has a free downloadable tool.

If the database uses the simple recovery model, I think you're out of luck.

  • If the database has never had a full backup, even in full recovery it won't keep the logs. There has to be a full backup taken before SQL starts retaining log entries.

Check the recovery mode of the DB. You can query sys.databases to find that.

  • Soapbox time...Please all DBAs. For your security, perform a backup of all databases as soon as they are created. It's just a good best practices thing to so. It will save you great embarassment when examples such as this happens.

And make sure that said backups are restorable. There's nothing worse that tellng management that 'Everything's fne, we have recent backups', then finding that said backups are not restorable
