Restore Clustered setup onto lone....

  • I have a question for anyone who can answer this. Lets say that I have clustered Windows 2000 with SQL 2000. let say for some crazy reason the whole cluster blew up. all I have are tape backups of the file system and that is all. Is it possible to take the data and log files from the data folder and move them onto a lone server running SQL server 2000 and attach the database? would it work. assuming that there werent any custom users or anything crazy like that? Let me know. thanks.

  • I have never tried but the databases except possibly master but I don't see why not should restore fine to a non-clustered server. You may have to specific the restore location of the files but as for clustered the DBs themselves are not aware of the type of server they re on and should not care. If master will not work then you install and fix the user logins should be the only issue to get all the rest back.

  • Worse come to worse you can always just restore the mdf files and re-attach them to a clean install and let the server rebuild the log files.
