Hi
I have a live Enterprise server and dev and test standard editions. All are SQL 2005 SP3 CU4.
Currently I do a Copy Live run where each week the live database is backed up and then restored to dev. This allows me to verify the backups and it allows the support team to test fixes against a replica of live.
I would like to allow vardecimal storage on the live server - it's getting big and it will save me some space.
Once this occurs I will not be able to do the straight forward backup and restore as Standard does not support vardecimal.
Has anyone else encountered this and worked out a way around it?
I don't really want to do a big SISS package as there are a lot of interrelated tables which wont allow truncations etc... I guess I may have to go this way though. My other idea is to back it up to a UAT server which is also enterprise - drop the vardecimal format and then use that for the live copy to dev.
Any thoughts any ideas welcomed.

Have you considered using developer edition on your development server?

You may be right - these servers were installed before I got here.
There is a lot of junk and packages to clear up for an re-install but could be worth it in the long run.

I thought that test servers didn't need a 2nd license, in which case you could drop Enterprise there.
If not, developer edition makes sense.

I'll look into the Test licensing as that could be really useful - we have about 5 test server for different live applications.
I guess I will just have to take down the dev server for a morning one day.
Thanks for your help.
