Restarting a replicated instance

  • Hi All,

    I have an instance (Instance2) with some of the databases which are replicated as the subscribers from another instance (Instance 1 as the publishers). I have transactional replication in place.

    If I restart my second instance (Instance 2) how will replication be affected? Will it resume from the point it stopped or do I need to reconfigure replication? Any Ideas

    Thanks,

    Suri

  • Could anyone help?

  • You could stop the relevant agent jobs on the publisher instance.

    As this is transactional replication, better to stop and disable the below jobs on publisher.

    -> Log reader job

    -> Distribution job

    After you restart the subscriber instance, enable and start the above jobs in publisher.

  • Also, make sure to perform the same steps to the snapshot agent job on the publisher if it is enabled or scheduled to run by any chance.
