not sure how doing that would be any different to what i've already done, apart from splitting the log files away for master, msdb, model and tempdb
come the service pack, they wont be in the 'default' location which is what I thought I was being told would be bad..?

if you leave an install to 'default' (don't go into advanced option) system dbs end up in c:\program fies.
for an upgrade, the default will be wherever the registry says your master database is currently......

i know on a new install i can change the location..
but otherwise you're saying that I should move master to somewhere else, and that will be considered the default?
so come service pack day.. if master was in Z:\Data (for example). and all my other system db's are here.. i shouldn't have an issue, as it'll replace the resource database in the default (Z:\Data), which is exactly where i want it?

They just have to be in the same location. What location doesn't matter much, so long as it's the same.
