How do I reset the sa password on a database server if I forgot it?

If you installed with Windows authentication, at the server, you should be able to get into Enterprise Manager and do that when logged in as Administrator. Installation gives the BUILTIN\Administrators windows group syadmin role rights.
A MSDE-related link that has some info on modifying the registry to change your authentication mode. It should be the same on Standard / Enterprise versions:

An administrator can change the sa password in the QA without knowing the current password using sp_password. Eg
sp_password Null, 'New Password', 'sa'
The Null holds the position of the old password.
