Resetting a cluster account password

  • Hi,

I need to reset the cluster account password in a two-node

    Win 2003/SQL 2000 environment.

Has anyone done this, and if yes, would you please give some pointers.

So far I have 3 services that I need to change the account passwords:

    Cluster Services

    MSSQLSERVER

    SQLSERVERAGENT

Am I missing anything. Any response is greatly appreciated.

  • That looks like the list. One caveat is when changing the MSSQLSERVER and SQLSERVERAGENT you need to use EM. It seems that it does some registry 'stuff' that the Computer Management MSC does not know about. In the past this was not an issue but when applying SQL SP4 it will cause a failure. Oh, also, you'll be stopping and starting the SQL Server services and causing a failover in the process. So don't forget to failback !

  • Thanks Rudy.

I have a spare cluster. I'll be installing SQL 2000 in it, to make as identical as possible to the production cluster. Will test it there first, then I'll do whatever ends up working on the production cluster. I'll post the results for others in need.

    Thanks again.

  • A test cluster is a wondweful thing. It took me a year to get one and it has been a 'true' blessing to have. Enjoy the luxury !!!

  • Yeah,

I'm blessed that way. My company spends money on hardware like candy. 🙂
