Researching specific errors

    Is there a utility or document that list error messages, details about the particular error and possibly troubleshooting steps?

    Try BOL. Search for Errors. Some of the errors are listed, and if you can't find there I usaully check Knowledege Bases on Microsoft's website.

    MSDN is another location that you can check. Occasionally you will run across errors that the number will not help, in that case use the text.
