Hi there,
I've been trying to install the Reporting Server on my private XP pro machine running evaluation of SQL 2000 and IIS 5.0. I have managed to install the application but I am missing the ReplicationServer service. I am able to debug reports but cannot use neither report manager nor access the reporserver website.
I've also noticed that the ReportManger files should be stored in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting Services I can't see there anything except for HELP SAMPLES and Read_Me.htm files
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Arick

hi arick, as far as I know you can only install the client part of the reporting services on an XP machine. This means that you don't get the reporting server or website and you only get the help manual and the vs plugin. It appears to be that the only OS that RS will install on is W2000 and W2003 at the moment.

You can install both the client and server portions of Reporting Services on Windows XP.
I would suggest re-reading the ReadMe document. In particular, check the account that is being used for the the ReportServer service. The default account "Local Service" is not allowed for Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003.
The following is from the ReadMe document:
"1.11 Local Service is not supported for the ReportServer Windows service"
"Use of the Local Service account for the ReportServer Windows service is not supported. If you are installing a report server on a Windows XP or a Windows Server 2003 computer, you must choose another account to run the ReportServer Windows service."

Mike

Yeah, but it says you can only install the Developer Edition of Reporting Services on XP Professional. Anyway I didn't know that - I suppose I didn't look past the evaluation version that I've currently got.

Thanks a lot guys. It's true that you can install RS on Windows XP but it has to be a full developer edition not evaluation like in my case.
I am really grateful for clarifying this for me
Cheers
