Hello, I hope a RS guru out there can help me.
I have just installed a fresh SQL2008 server with reporting services. I have gone through the RS configuration manager completly and made a note of the URL for the report services manager. When I try the URL in the browser, I get a page cannnot be displayed error with DNS error at the bottom.
Do I need to add a host file in DNS to get it to work or have I overlooked somthing?
Extra info: This is not sharepoint integrated, and its a named instance, during installation I opted for option 3 to install files but not to configure reporting services. I hope I have supplied enough info.
Thanks for reading!
Regards,
D.

The is it plugged in question :
Are the RS services started?
Can you ping the RS server from the machine you want access from?

Hi,
If you had chosen the option 'install but not configure reporting services', then you should first configure the report database instance using the Reporting Services Configuration tools. Select the database instance where you want your 'ReportServer' and 'ReportServerTemp' DBs to be created.
I once had this problem and fixed it following the above steps.

Hello,
Thanks for getting back. I already have those db's configured and are present in my SQL instance. Neither of the web service URL or the Managment URL are working, and I can connect to it ok in RS configuration manager. I do not have IIS installed, as I believe this is not longer required for 2008.
Are the RS services started? Yes.
Can you ping the RS server from the machine you want access from? I am trying to access it locally.

D.

Look that up on google, I know there's a little difference on the rs url. I can't remember what 'cause I never used n.i. for SSRS.

Thanks again for getting back. I have looked around and found bits and pieces but nothing specific as everything seems to match up. I just keep getting 'DNS Fail' on the page cannot be displayed error page.

D.

Hello,
Thanks again, I did read this and everything appears to check out, it must be something else. In the windows application log I get 'The value for URLRoot in RAReportServer.Config is not valid, the default value will be used instead'. I've also looked this up and found articles that talk about manually editing the file, I've tried this but it did not work, unless i did something wrong.
Nevermind, I'll have to try to tackly this as a slightly later date.
Thank you for your help,
Kind Regards,
D.

Might be faster to just uninstall and redo the setup...
