Reporting Services login prompt on remote access to ReportManager

  • Hi,

When I browse to http://myserver/reports from other machine on the domain I am always prompted for login credentials. How can I avoid this situation... if i have all configurations based on windows integration.... why is this happening? can anyone help me please?

I am using SQL SEVER 2008 Enterprise Edition + Windows Server 2003.

    Thanks in advance.

  • How is IIS setup to handle security? It's possible your Virtual Directory (/Reports, /Reportserver or whatever) is causing the prompt for credentials.

More likely however, the IE settings on the client machines has been set to not automatically logon to servers in the intranet zone (security tab, custom settings, the last option...)

  • I am encountering the same problem after my IT manager tried to install Microsoft Office Communication Manager on the same server used for reporting services. He has since 'uninstalled' the program, but I still cannot access the reports (even when trying to log in correctly).

    Any clues? thanks

  • This sounds like a much different problem, it might be best to post your own question with appropriate information to help us help you. Have you checked to make certain that your client (IE) is set to pass the credentials automatically? HAve you checked to make sure IIS is setup correctly? Have you checked the SSRS Config settings? It's possible the Office Com Manager overwrote your virtual directories for SSRS or at least somewhat hosed your configuration, particularly if the person just installed it with all of the defaults instead of putting it in it's own Website.

HAve you checked to make sure IIS is setup correctly? not sure where I would go to check this out (I'm just the report writer and data hacker here.

Have you checked the SSRS Config settings? again, i'm a bit in the dark can you direct me?

'hosed'...yep, that's the highly technical term i use regularly - so can you direct me to the proper places to 'unhose' this since my IT tech staff doesn't seem to be making any great headway by contacting Microsoft support and I'm getting tired of waiting for them to figure this out - thanks so much! :hehe:

  • Have a look at the following from BOL and see if it doesn't get you pointed in the right direction.

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159624.aspx

Basically though, you need to look at the way the website that handles you SSRS instance is configured if you're using IIS, (it depends on if your using 2005 or 2008). There are a lot of options that depend on your particular environment.

  • You were pointing in the right direction. We ended up spending money with Microsoft to get the problem resolved. Hopefully someone here has learned an important lesson.

    Thanks for all your help!
