Reporting Services Insatllation Path

  • hi,

We are installing sql server 2005 reporting services named instance (with files only installation). While installing I alredy choose the path as D:\Microsoft SQL Server.

But when I went through BOL it says

    Componet:Reporting Services report manager

    Default Path:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.n\Reporting Services\ReportManager\Bin\

    Fixed path

But My Installation Success. Do I need to uninstall reporting services and install it againg and choose the default path mentioned above?

    Please help me out

  • As long as your install completed successfully and everything is functioning as you expect it, then I'd say you're all set. I rarely install programs to my c:\program files\ directory, installing instead to another drive.

EDIT: Just cause it's the default doesn't mean it's the only way to do it.

  • Thanks,

I installed the sql server reporting services 64-bit with files only option to the directory D:\Microsoft SQL Server.

After the installation Iam seeing one more folder D:\Microsoft SQL Server (x86) (Created by the setup). Inside Microsoft SQL Server (x86), we have a folder called 90. Is this normal behaviour?

    please clarify me?

  • yes. There are portions of Reporting Services that are still 32 bit programs. Also it depends on where you placed your reporting services database. SSRS requires a SQL database to store it's data. You tell SSRS where this database is using the SSRS Configuration manager(or tool don't remember the name).

Long story short, even with the 64 bit version of SQL Server not all of the asundry tools are 64 bit. I think BIDS has a 32 bit components to allow non 64 bit clients (most of your workstations I'd imagine) to create and deploy reports etc. without having a full blown Visual Studio install.
