Reporting Services - Error with deployment

  • Hi everyone. Ive recently installed SQL Server 2005 and started creating a report with the reporting tool. I can preview it and can run the report but cannot deploy it. I keep getting the message :

"A connection could not be made to the report server http://localhost/ReportServer".

During my installation I chose to create an instance of sql rather than the standard install which means my reportserver is localhost/ReportServer$AFCSQL01.

Where can I change these settings? I cant find it in the options.

  • http://localhost/ReportServer$AFCSQL01 is a reference to virtual folder in IIS on the local DB.

You could try making a name change to the virtual folder.

But.. reporting service is a .Net application, and any reference to a direct path (ReportServer$AFCSQL01) in the application code would look for "ReportServer$AFCSQL01" instead of "ReportServer". If some pages work, or just parts of pages, and others don't work, that would be why.

I'm hoping that Microsoft would never do something like that in their application that they preach against in every .Net programming book.  Give it a try..

If that doesn't work, a reinstallation might be the only option left..
