I created a datasource in Report Manger. I am able to successfully create the data source. I then clicked the Generate Model and got the error, "Cannot create a connection to data source 'DataSource1'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection) Get Online Help" I used the same connection in BI Deve studio to create a data source. I was able to successfully use the data source to create a report. But when I tried to deploy the data source I got the same error.
I am using sql server authentication to access the database. My NT user for Report Manager has content Manager rights. We connect to the SQL Server DB engine remotely using management studio and BI Deve studio successfully. The Reporting services are locate on their own server and the the DB Engine is on a second server.

Does the ReportServer not have access to the data source?

Yes it does. When the server admin opens the data source on the Reporting server she is able to successfully connect to the database. She was able to successfully build and deploy reports using the interfaces on the reporting server. It is only when we try to do this things from client machines, without sys admin rights, with content manager rights does this fail. However I fail to see why this would be an issue at this point in the process i.e. making the connection to the database using the datasource using Sql server authentication?
