I have a SQL 2000 Server that is the backend database server for a Reporting Services 2000 instance running on a different server.
I need to replace the backend SQL 2000 database server with a new server. Is it possible to move the reporting services databases to a SQL Server 2005 database server without upgrading Reporting Services to 2005?
I have seen a number of links like these below for how to move Reporting Services databases from one server to another, but none says specifically that Reporting Services 2000 databases can be hosted on a 2005 database server.

Has anyone seen a link saying that you can do this, or better yet, actually done this?

I am confident you can move your 2000 Report Server databases to a 2005 version with no problems. If you wanted, you could keep your 2000 report server databases with the compatibility level at 2000 (80) and you should be just fine. Just on, the report server make sure you backup your Encryption Key, so you can restore your passwords instead of having to type in you login ID’s and passwords all of you data sources.

Have you actually done this, or seen a link where someone has done this?

I have only done this on a test crash-n-burn server, and it took me 3 to 4 times to get it right. Now this was just moving a 2005 report server database to different machines for testing purposes. Like I said in my previous message, you should be able to move you 2000 report server DB to a 2005 instance and keep the Compability level at 2000 (80) without any issues. then use the report server configuration manager to update your database in the future.
