Report Builder verses Pivot Table

  • Hi there,

At present reports are delivered to users via Excel that has a connection to a view in a database. This will pull back in theory a dataset onto a worksheet.

From that dataset on the worksheet we create a pivot table, The great thing with pivot tables as far as I'm concerned is that you can easily drill down and this launches a new worksheet that you can see the more detailed information.

Starting to use Report Builder and I can see that you can create tables and matrixs, but is there a way that in your table or matrix you could have just certain elements of your Dataset and yet when you clicked on a certain field in the table it will open up another report with all of the detail - so in fact acting like a pivot table?

Can anyone recommend any links/tutorials that could help me out with this? Is it even possible.

    Thanks

  • First off, I don't think having PivotTables in Excel and having reports in SSRS are mutually exclusive. That said, there are a ton of tutorials on YouTube that cover this kind of thing. Look up SSRS + Drilldown, SSRS + DrillThrough and you should find a bunch of videos.

    Hope that helps.
