Newbie here. Work in finance and currently use Excel for reporting (getting actuals from SQL using Access as a front end) and then comparing against targets held in Excel. Then compiling the reports in Excel and emailing to users. All a bit of a manual process and we looking at streamlining BUT still trying to maintain most of the skills within finance so that it doesn't become too complicated.
Have been looking at SQL report builder, but not sure if that is the best option? Trying to avoid having to get a developer to build reports in Reporting Services as that would mean having to rely on our IT department for changes etc (which takes ages and the reports are business critical)
Is Report Builder capable of connecting to more than one datasource ie SQL and Excel and then combining these datasources to produce reports or is there something else that we could consider (Crystal reports?)

Thanks, I am struggling to connect to our Access databases? Can you help with the connection strings for that?

Pre 2007. I have selected ODBC as the datasource. Built a new connection string (not sure if it is file data source or machine data source, I have tried both) and connected to the database (I think, it says connection successful) however I can't see any of the tables or the fields?. There must be some error in the connection string I have created?

Have you tested the connection? Do you have BIDS? It is easy to select the connection from there. Also you can declare the tables from which you want to transfer the data.

Have tested the connection and it says connection successful, however I cannot see the tables.
Do not have BIDS unfortunately. The database is called test 2.mdb (Access 2002-2003 format) The database is saved on my desktop. What connection string should I use (hoping you are good at writing code 🙂
