Replication Scalability and Limits

  • I have a SQL Server 2008 SP1 production setup on a 64 bit Windows 2008 box. We currently have over 700 separate client databases and our current DR strategy utilizes Log Shipping. I am curious to know if there are any limits to replication that would make it impossible to use any of the three replication types to accomplish the necessary DR data migration instead of our current Log Shipping solution. Does anyone know of a limit on the number of separate databases that can be used in replication per SQL Server 2008 instance and not just a limit on hardware? I haven't had much luck finding info on this specific topic and any help would be greatly appreciated

  • I have heard and read about an arbitrary limit for replication. Check this link.
