replication problem

  • I have a five server at different sites. and replicated through transactional replication . but if i join new server to the central server through transactional replication it replace old data. how can i protect my old data and join a new server through transactional replication.

  • Hi,

Do you mean "Replace old data" - Replacing the data at the new server (new subscriber), then it would definelty replace the old data, because any type of replication is followed by first applying the snapshot of the selected articles in the replication.

Incase if you have selected a particular table\object as an article for transation replication then that table\object would be dropped and then recreated at the subscriber end for the first time. Which means first time a snapshot of the publisher is copied to the subscriber and then the data gets syncronised by applying the transaction logs there after.

Hence you cannot stop it from happening. Advisable to take a backup incase if you require the old data.

  • hi, yeh this can be happen for first time of transactinal replication it will copy of your old data as snapshot and restore that into your new server instead of that you can do this snapshot process of copying data.

  • hi sory please ignore previous one... i want to say that it's replacing your data with old data that because of first step of snapshot taken by process you can directly restore that data manually and start process of transactional replication without snapshot

    It can not achived ,

bec whenever u create new subscriber , snapshot agent is start, take a snaphot of publisher data and copy it to subscriber. so ur old data will be replace.
