This may seem like a daft question but please humour me...I need to replicate over a firewall, I cannot connect to the subscriber from the publisher, but I can connect to the publisher from the subscriber. Is it possible to configure replication to replicate data from the publisher to the subscriber without changing firewall settings...Preferably I would use transactional replication, I can place the distributor on either side of the firewall.
Any thoughts if you think this is possible and if so how, I haven't had any luck yet.
Thanks in advance for any replies

From what I read so far from your question, it seems that the port 1433 is open for communication from the subscriber.
One question though, how did you test your communication between Subscriber to Publisher? Did you use SSMS or check using ODBC connection string of some kind?
Replication uses only the normal TCP port of 1433, but if you need to connect with SSMS then the UDP port has to be opened. You can set up replication by using Pull method as long as the 1433 port is open for communication between the distributor and subscriber and publisher and distributor. If UDP port 1434 is not open (Usually network admins do like to open UDP ports on the firewall) then you will have to do everything with scripts. I hope you have friendly Network admins and they do not hate you... 🙂 You will need their support to make sure that there is no problem in communication on port 1433.
