We've reinstalled SQL 2005(Standard Ed.) from scratch, adding SQL_Replication to the ADDLOCAL line in the ini file(silent install)
When right-clicking replication on the instance, selecting Configure Distribution, we get the famous 21028 Replication Not Installed dialogue box.
Yet when we try to add replication manually, via Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs, we get the following message: "The following components that you chose to install are already installed on the machine"
The install log files show a \Database Replication\ subfolder successfully installed under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared. Not so. The replication subfolders are not there.
Has anyone come across this before? Any ideas/guesses?
Thanks in advance

You're going to hurl abuse at me I'm sure. I had exactly this problem a couple of weeks ago and after a few hours of cursing and swearing I fixed it. The good news is that, if your problem is the same which I'm guessing it is because I noticed exactly the same behaviour, replication is installed properly. The bad news is that I seem to have lost the notes I was making at the time and can't for the life of me remember what I did to fix it. I do remember it was a bit of a Homer Simpson "Doh" moment. I've been racking my brain all day and still can't remember.
Bit of a chocolate teapot I'm afraid but if inspiration comes my way I'll let you know.
Sorry,
Mike

Nope, no fear of abuse....
We uninstalled all SQL components and reinstalled via the GUI. Worked like a charm.
Weird.
