Replication INFO Request

  • Can anyone recommend any articles or instructions on how to setup Replication between 2 2005 SQL Enterprise servers. I basically just need to setup one server as a Publisher and the other as a Subscriber. I think all I need is a Push Subscription setup. I basically need how to steps if possible.

I have done some research but I am not 100% sure of some things and I was wondering if anyone has done this before and know the best way for me to approach this.

    Thank you

I know most peoples missed the permission setting, which causes the replication failed. So, be careful.

  • Thanks for the reply.....I was also wondering by setting this up is this going to require any additional disk space to be consumed on the Publisher server and do you think it is wise to run the Publisher and the Distributor on the same server. What I am trying to accomplish here is I want the data to be synced and I want to be able to schedule the data to sync at a certain time of the day for example 1am I want the replication to start. I also want to just sync certain tables if possible but if this is not possible I will settle for what it will do. I just do not want to effect the performance on the Production servers. I do not want this to cause latency for the users.

    Let me know your opinion.

    Thanks again

It will consume some space on Publisher if you put Distributor on it. Whether you run Publisher and Distributor on same box depends on how busy your production box is.

That is not a problem. If you go with Snapshot replication, you can set it run at any time you want. If Transactional repl, then, the latency is about 1 sec (depends on your Network).

I also want to just sync certain tables if possible but if this is not possible I will settle for what it will do. I just do not want to effect the performance on the Production servers. I do not want this to cause latency for the users.

If the data in some tables does not change much during the day and the new data is not required, you can go with Snapshot repl. If the new data is required, or the data is changed much during the business hour, you can go with Transactional repl.
