Can you replicate from a SQL 7.0 (publisher) to a SQL 2000 dB (subscriber) with minimal problems? If its possible are there any concerns or recommendations against it? Please advise.
Thanks,
Christine

So far testing is going okay. But now we have a 7.0 site replicating in to SQL 2000 and we're getting an ODBC error message. Do you know what this could be from?
The error is emmitted when the publisher attempts to connect to the subscriber.
Need help ASAP,
Christine

One last thing the publishers are running NT 4.0. Will this change anything?

The upgrade went well not without a hitch though. So for other DBA's who may need to upgrade a MS SQL 7.0 database to a SQL 2000 dB in the future make note of this information.
The upgrade will error (and exit) when it begins to run 1 of 17 .sql scripts. The first error is on the first script which is the message.sql (essentially in this script, there are some inserts that are being made to the master dB), the upgrade will fail when it tries to run this script.
FROM Microsoft's website:
To fix it the problem you will need to read and review BUG #: 354376 (SHILOH_BUGS).
The Symptoms are as follows:
When you upgrade a server from Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 to SQL Server 2000, the setup may fail when it executes the Messages.sql script. To identify this issue, review these logs: The Sqlstp.log log file.
To fix it:
RESOLUTION
This issue is isolated to the original Release To Manufacturing (RTM) version of SQL Server only. It does not apply to any service pack setup (because an upgrade of databases cannot take place during a service pack installation). As a result, this fix will not be included in any service packs.
The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:
Use these steps:
Download s80305i.exe from:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/sql/transfer/sql80/setup/s80305i.exe
The password is: 8.00.305
To install SQL Server 2000 using the new Setup.ins file, copy all of the files on the SQL Server 2000 CD to a directory on your drive.
Replace the existing Setup.ins file with the one you download in the fix.
Rerun the SQL Server 2000 setup.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
Please see http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q300676 for complete information on this issue.
Thanks again for all your help!
