I have a current 2005 production server cluster.
I have a new 2008R2 production server cluster. We want to start testing and configuring applications that currently pull and push data to the 2005 production databases.
I want to continue using the 2005 dbs until I have my applications all mapped and tested with the 2008R2 cluster.
Once that is done I want to make the 2008 the sole publisher and the 2005 a subscriber.
Is the best way to accomplish this to do peer to peer replication and then change to transactional with updating subscribers?
Is this the best approach or is there a better way?
My main concern is the ability (or potential for problems) breaking the peer to peer replication to do the change for the 2008 cluster to be primary.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Peer to peer or Merge will likely be your only option. I know that using updatable subscribers your changes will not make the double hop if you were to use a subsriber/publisher for your 2008r2 cluster.
