Can you rename connections in a dts package. I go into disconnected edit and change the description and name, yet it still says the other name underneath that connection object?

Yes you can, and it's done by changing the description (which you did). The only thing I'm not sure of in your description is 'going into disconnected edit'. Maybe this is having a negative effect.

When you're in Disconnected Edit, make sure you change the task that is associated with the step as well.

The answer was, after you edit the names in disconnected edit, you have to open each connection object and click ok..this will update the name underneath the connection object.

Simple solution.
1. Go to edit connection properties.
2. Select New Connection Option. (Connection parameters stay the same.)
3. Type the new name.
4. Press OK.
The old connection will disappear when no longer used by any task upon closing or recreation of the package.

My last post was innacurate. The unused connections remain even though they are unused. I have posted an ActiveX script that cleans up unused connections.
Best of luck!
