How do I remove white space when selecting a string using a select statement?

SELECT REPLACE( SomeColumn, SPACE(1), '' ) FROM SomeTable

or if you only want to trim leading or trailing spaces you can use :
SELECT RTRIM(LTRIM(mycol))
FROM myobject
