Hi,
I'm uninstalling SQL Server 2008 from a node a/p cluster set up on Windows 2008. I have successfully removed SQL Server 2008 from node1 using Remove node option. But when I tried to uninstall SQL Server 2008, the Remove node operation failed with the below error:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Setup
------------------------------
The following error has occurred:
The resource 'Cluster Disk 5 Z: BACKUP' could not be moved from cluster group 'SQL Group' to cluster group 'Available Storage'. Error: The operation failed because either the specified cluster node is not the owner of the resource, or the node is not a possible owner of the resource. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80071397
)
Then I canceled the setup, restarted the node and then again tried to uninstall SQL Server 2008, from the Remove node operation and this time when come to the wizard where we need to select the Instance name from the drop down, there is NO instance to select and if click next without selecting the instance it says there are NO instance to Uninstall.
Does that mean the SQL Server 2008 instance has uninstalled even though the set up failed??
:hehe:
Thanks

I got the same issue and when I tried to install using Add node operation again, set up did not find the instance in drop down to remove it. So I belive even if the Setup reported the error at first time, the instance got removed:cool::cool:

The SQL 2008 installer is a disaster and a half, honestly. There are so many bugs in it that I have no idea how it ever got through their QA department.
It sounds like it's uninstalled however. One way to check would be check the SQL app in cluster administrator and see what the possible owner nodes are. If you don't see that one listed, there's a 99% chance it's off, and there's just some files/reg entries left over that weren't deleted. And if you're planning on removing that node from the cluster completely anyway..well that doesn't matter.
