Hello everybody,
I am trying to register a remote sql server 2000 in my enterprise manager. But it gives me an error of "server does not exist or access denied".
I have disabled the firewall and the anti-virus.
I checked the port 1433. It is in listening mode.
I cannot figure out what is wrong. I can also connect there through VNC
Can somebody help me ?

I get problems like that from time to time. I usually check that I can connect via the IP address using Query Analyzer and that the server is actually using port 1433 by checking the SQL logs. If that all fails then I resort to trying to connect to instance by using query analyzer on the actual server and use the ip address and instance name (if it isn't the default) to make sure that the server is actually listening. I couldn't tell you the number of times I've seen a server failed to bind to port 1433.
