We have a large number of site SQL servers (all v7) and a central head office SQL server (v2000).
The central server has every site server defined as a Remote Server, and each site has only the HO server defined as a Remote Server.
Should I be looking at changing these to linked servers? I read an article which suggested that Remote Servers is an old feature which is being replaced by Linked Servers and that Linked Servers is backwards compatible.
Does anyone know of any gotchas or reasons not to change the Remote Servers to Linked Servers? Should everything work as before?
Cheers,
Simon

Right. Remote server is for backwards compatability. Starting from 7.0, linked server is recommended.
