Hi Expertz.
I had to install an sql server 2000 in machine.
There was already a sql server 2005 express edition installed in that machine and local SSMS.
The installation of 2000 went well and im able to connect to 2000 server using local Enterprise Manager.
But im not able to connect to the 2000 server instance using Local SSMS or Remote SSMS or Remote Enterprise Manager
Please help........

You cannot connect to sql server 2005 from SQL Server Enterprise Manager. I need to install sql server management studio express for express edition.

you should be able to connect to 2000 from SSMS. I'm not sure about the Express version, but I wouldn't expect it to fail.
I have SSMS here, SQL 2005, SP1 and I easily connect to my 2000 instances.

i changed the port one which sql server 2000 was listening since the default port 1433 was used by sql server 2005
and gave Server name as
instance_name,port_number
Now im able to connect to the sql server 2000 server.
