reinstall sql 2005 Evaluation Edition

  • My Evaluation Edition copy of sql 2005 has expired and i need to reinstall it. How do i get it running fine and also keep my data restored.

  • If you are just carrying out development \ testing work, why not buy a copy of Developer Edition?

You will have access to all of the features of Enterprise Edition for a very small cost.

It won't expire after 120 days either.

  • Thanks for your response. I was using the evalution for production. now it has expired, i do not want to buy the standard or enterprise editions since i am not making any money from the application

I still want to have full performance like standard or enterprise editions

    my questions:

    1. What is the different between express edition and standard editions of sql 2005. Cost, Technical, Performance and DBA Administration

    2. Will Developer edition give the same performance and functions like the evaluation edition?

    Thanks

  • Developer Edition gives you all the features found within Enterprise Edition (i.e. everything SQL Server has to offer).

However, if using the SQL Server for production work then you can't use the Developer Edition (the terms of the EULA forbid it).

Express Edition is free and can be used for production work, but it is limited to using 1 processor, 4GB of RAM, and the maximum size of any single database is 4GB.

You will not have access to many of the advanced features within the paid for versions, and the management \ BI capabilities are more limited - but for smaller scale production work Express Edition may serve you well.
