One of our cluster nodes failed and had to be rebuilt. We removed it form sql and the cluster and then added it back to the cluster and sql.
How do I reintall SP2 and the slammer hotfix to the rebuilt node. Is it safe to reinstall SP2 even though the databases and binaries were at the 800.679 (Slammer patch).

Can you check the version of sqlservr.exe in both nodes to see whether they are same?

They are not the same the rebuilt node is SQL2000 with no service packs installed.
I need to install SP2 and the slammer patch.
The question is can I safely reinstall SP2 and the slammer patch and not messup the original (non rebuilt) node of the cluster.

When you added a new node to SQL Server cluster, the SQL Server binaries are copied from installation CD onto the new node.
Fail over to the new node, install SP2 to the virtual instance and then apply the hotfix.
Or you also can temporarily remove the node that has sp2 already from SQL Server cluster, apply the sp2 and hotfix to the new node and rejoin the old node back to the cluster.
