Hi
I have been reorganising/rebuilding some indexes due to high fragmentation due to an alert generated by Red Gates sqlmonitor.
I have ran some scripts and done the required steps to get the indexes back in shape.
The alert moves to the top of the pile and when i hover my mouse over the 'status' it says 'downgraded' with the time - however i still have the red alert box which says 'high' - this shoud now read 'low' or the alert should maybe be totally cleared if my index rebuild truly did its job !
How can i get the red alert box to change to what it should reflect after the downgraded process ?
Thanks

Just a thought Pearl but wouldn't you be better posting this on the Redgate Support forums or perhaps giving them a call directly?
Their support really is very good.

Hi,
Fragmentation check is very expensive on Monitored entity hence SQL Monitor checks for this only once a week at 1:00 am on Sunday (Base monitor local time). So even if you have re-build index and the alert condition no longer exists, the alert is still 'Active' because the next check will only happen on Sunday. After the collection happens on Sunday, the alert will be updated.
Hope this explains. Let us know if you are any more question.

Once a week you say ?
Mine is set to once a day. Daily is the longest time interval i can set - there is no option for a weekly collection, unless we are talking about different things maybe ?

Hi,
Yes, looks like we are talking about different things. Are you referring to built-in 'Fragmented indexes' alert?
Thanks,
Priya

Yes the alert is the 'Increased % of fragmented indexes' - even so though, i changed the metric to be collected every 5 mins to intially see if it would change after index rebuild - and it didnt. I think i know why though. I have learned that sometimes after you run a defrag, if the indexes pages are small and over multiple extents then they remain fragmented. Is this correct ?
Even so though i still dont get why the alert showed as downgraded ( so it recognised my good work at defragging the indexes 🙂 ) but never changed from a red 'high' to a blue 'low' alert.

Hi,
Ah ha. That explains. You are talking about this custom alert 'http://sqlmonitormetrics.red-gate.com/percentage-of-fragmented-indexes/' whereas I was talking about 'Fragmented indexes' alert.
Could you please email me screen shots of the following to priya.sinha@red-gate.com:
- Custom alert showing settings for High, Medium and Low value.
- Screen shot from Analysis page for this custom metric showing last 2,3 hours.
- Screen shot of the alert showing 'Details' page.
- Screen shot of the alert showing 'Alert history' page.
Thanks,
Priya
