I am brand new to SQL Server, just installed my first instance.
I think I want the recovery model for MSDB to be Full and do regular backups including Full database and Transaction log on a different schedule..
I have observed that whenever I start/stop the instance, the recovery model for the MSDB database reverts to simple. Is this normal? Is there a way I can prevent this so that it stays Full?
Thanks.

That would be MS SQL Server 2000.

That is the default model for that database and it is reset every time SQL Server Agent restart. You cannot change this. SOme folks suggest doing a backup often but unless there would be concern with losing job status history, backup history, or DTS execution history you really only need to worry when you change/create a job or dts package.
