Does it matter whether the model database is set to simple or full recovery mode? It seems to be full as a default when SQL Server is installed. Does it have to be in full mode or can it be simple mode? I will appreciate it if someone can explain this for me. Thanks.

Hi,
The recovery model for the model database doesn't matter in context of the database itself, but depending what default recovery model you want any newly created databases will be based on what you set for the model database. This is a template database.
Thank you,

So if model is simple and we add a new user database it will be simple also. Then the new user database can be changed to full and transaction log backups added if backup/restore requirements call for it? While for the model database itself it is sufficient to have a full backup done occassionally? Thanks so much for the explanations.
