Recommend material discussing SSIS Design Patterns

  • Ive developed a few SSIS packages in my time, but they are all ADHOC, developed due to an immediate and specific need and so I have no real template or standard to base them on.

It strikes me though that there is scope for a set number of high level design patterns that could be applied or adapted to any particular situation.

Is this something that has been discussed via the SSIS guru's and is there any literature on this?

I have found a few blogs but nothing very substantial.

    Thanks!

  • Can you be a little specific?

Substantial is a very vague term.

Can you list some of the blogs you have found for a start?

  • I was at the SQL Saturday in Boston on 4/2 and Matt Masson did a presentation on SSIS design patterns. He uploaded his presentation to the SQL Saturday site.

Click download and save it to your computer. It is not a zip file, but it is mis-named, so change the extension to .pdf instead of .zip and you should be able to view it. Granted, these are just the slides from his presentation, not the whole presentation itself, but you may find it useful.

Matt is a member of the SSIS design team and regularly blogs on SSIS here:

PS. If you are anywhere near an upcoming SQLSaturday event, they are very worthwhile. I am willing to drive 3 hours or so to get to one.
