HI. I was wondering if there is a guideline as to how often sql server should be stopped and started. Should it be done on a normal basis or only as needed.
Thanks, Juanita

We are a long way from the norm on this, but we normally only reboot our boxes, if maintenance requires. This is around once a month or so, although sometimes longer.

Hi Juanita,
In our environment, SQL Server is only rebooted when the server itself needs to be rebooted. Otherwise, in our 24x7 shop, SQL Server always needs to be up and running because connections to the database are made around-the-clock.

Thank you for the replies. That is exactly what I was looking for. Coming from a mainframe environment to a client server environment is causing me to ask a lot of questions as to 'HOW' and 'WHY' ..
Thanks again..!
