Re-setting up SQL2005 Clustering

  • Hi,

We have recently lost one of our Cluster Nodes for a 2 node active/passive setup.

We lost the passive node of a SQL 2005 SP1 install on 2 x windows Server 2003 servers.

I'm looking at rebuilding the cluster and I am hoping that the rebuild will be as simple as rerunning the install program on the existing cluster node and re-setting up the cluster functionality at the appropriate point.

Can anyone confirm that? Or is it simple to uninstall SQL completely and reinstall it again from scratch...?

    Thx

  • 1, Remove Node information from SQL Server by running setup from Add/Remove program

    2. Evict node from Windows

    3. Add new node

    4. Add Node to SQL Server (Add/Remove Programe > Change > Maintain....)

  • there is a MS article giving step by step instructions. if you do it wrong you will need to rebuild the entire cluster from scratch

  • Well, that's helpful.

And the MS article would be...?

  • Does the active node go offline if you attach a new node to the cluster...?
