Re-install ODBC?

  • Hi,

Intended to re-install SQL Server with new language settings i Windows-XP.

Un-install seems to have wiped out all sorts of things including ODBC driver registration.

SQL Server re-install gets as far as configuring new installation and then "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified" however, there are NO drivers displayed in ODBC Manager.

Is there anything I can do other than re-installing Windows?

    Regards,

    Ian

  • Hi again,

Ran Office "Detect and Repair" which also bombed out with Error 1919 and ODBC Error 6 relating to "Component not found in registry"

Phew, never realised un-installing SQL was so dangerous!

Anyhow, I'll see if it's possible (after restoring to a previous setup) to locate and save the ODBC registry entries so I can put them back after the re-install of SQL wipes them out again.

    Sorry for all the confusion.

  • the best way to remove SQL Server is to :

1- Put your Setup CD of your SQL Server

2- make a steps as you install a new DB server .. but in last Screen , it will ask you to install  a new instance or to Remove the SQLServer ... Select to remove it

Now SQL Server is uninstalled ...

    I hope this help u.

  • ODBC drivers are part of MDAC. Uninstalling SQL should not impact the MDAC libraries and I think something might have gone wrong during the un-install resulting in corrupting your MDAC libraries.  You can download the latest MDAC components from Microsoft's site.

  • Many thanks for the kind assistance. Sorry for late response (working almost 24/7)

The day after posting thread I got SQL Server re-installed. What a rush - deadlines etc.

Did many things I.e. removing registry entries and re-installing MDAC 2.8.

After all that the new installation retained former settings and is STILL running "English" instead of "British English"!!!

Yep, my os is definitely set to "English(UK)", obviously an incomplete uninstall.

Oh well, I'll leave it until I get a new laptop.
