Usually when I'm in SSRS and if I click on a report and then properties I will sell at the bottom: Report Definition -
Edit Update. On my 2008 R2 SP3 database server which is running SSRS 10.50.6000.34 Standard Edition I don't see that option to edit or update the .rdl? What could be the reason, perhaps a IE security setting.

When you say you are in SSRS, do you mean Visual Studio or the Reporting Services website?
If you using Reporting Services, there is a drop-down arrow to the right of the report name.
If you created the report with Visual Studio, you can use the Download option to save it locally and edit it from Visual Studio.
If you created the report with Report Builder, choose Edit in Report Builder to make the updates.
