Well this currently a mixture of curiousity and trying to be proactive question. I was wondering if anyone had migrated data from RBASE to SQL 2000 before? I have heard of an old system that is still using RBASE as a backend in another department and figure I will eventually be asked to help migrate it. If anyone has some good stories about a similar experience or can suggest some resources I would appreciate it since I have never even seen an RBASE database before. thanks

RBase! Wow. I haven't heard that name in decades. I was a huge RBase fan, and for a good reason. It was awesome. It actually had the best true SQL support on a PC platform. I used to run RBase on 8086's (yes, that's the first pc) and 286's as far back as the mid 1980's. Anyhow, back then RBase had all the tools that any DBA would dream about today. Not sure how well the user was shielded from the DBA interfaces, but if you poke around, you'll find the export and data extract commands. If you find a command interface, at worst, I know you'll be able to write a Select..into statement. Your best strategy is to export all data to disk, then DTS into SQLS. Not sure if I still have my RBase manual at home collecting dust on my shelf.
