Range Chart Help

  • Hello,

I have a range chart with three date range values (bars) grouped by category - Title.

I need to find out if I can create a border or rectangle around all three bars in for each category. My boss is requesting the border due to visibility issues. I have been searching for hours but I am new to SSRS and cannot seem to find an answer.

    Thank you!

  • What version of SSRS are you using ?

If you are on SSRS 2008 R2, you can right click on one of the columns, select Series Properties and then click on Border.

  • Thanks for the reply! I am using 2008r2. I need to create a border around all three bars in the row group not just each individual bar. Crossing my fingers that someone can help with this.

  • I can appreciate wanting to deliver exactly what was asked for in the design, but I don't think what you are wanting is possible. Your best bet would be to make the groupings of values more distinctive through conditional formatting of the fill color(s). If the number of groupings is relatively small, you can make the fill color expression such that each grouping gets a unique color that contrasts strongly with the others on either side.

  • Well, it won't be easy, but you might be able to do it using the "Chart Areas" setting. I recommend you look at THIS SITE, specifically the "Creating a Correlated Bar Graph" section, and see if you can get some shading based on the values in the groups that will appear behind each grouping (e.g. by setting some max values slightly larger than the values of the group).

It will require some trial and error, and it might not be a box per se, but it could be good enough for your purposes. Good luck!

    Cheers,

    Eric
