Random Number Generator

It's quicker to write FROM x a, x b than it is to track down the inline tally table code.

That's what Snippets are for silly! 😀 Actually for me it is my Clip Library in TextPad ... what a wonderful tool.

That's 2k12, haven't had much opportunity to play with it yet.

At home things are different, I have a db set aside as a container for useful code. Probably not as quick to search & action as your Clip Library but I'm used to it.

When I'm too lazy to type it (not often) I use Template Explorer. There's a whole host of neat goodies in there but I've created a folder specifically for my own.

Now if I can just figure out how to export that so I can keep in sync the various SQL servers I operate on, I'd be happy as a pig in manure.

My mantra: No loops! No CURSORs! No RBAR! Hoo-uh!

My thought question: Have you ever been told that your query runs too fast?

My advice:
INDEXing a poor-performing query is like putting sugar on cat food. Yeah, it probably tastes better but are you sure you want to eat it?
The path of least resistance can be a slippery slope. Take care that fixing your fixes of fixes doesn't snowball and end up costing you more than fixing the root cause would have in the first place.

Need to UNPIVOT? Why not CROSS APPLY VALUES instead?
Since random numbers are too important to be left to chance, let's generate some!
Learn to understand recursive CTEs by example.

While it's not an export/import option you can copy them.

New template directories and scripts should be picked up when SSMS restarts

Hey Micky! Thanks for that!
