The Class B network your firm was assigned needs to be subnetted. You have four
divisions that are located in six cities around the U.S.You have approximately 5,000 employees, most of whom have computers on their desktops. In addition, you have approximately 47 servers and routers on your network. You want to create the most efficient network possible while providing for future growth, which is not yet quantified.
Based on this information, what is the optimal number of bits to use for your
subnetting task?
A. 20
B. 8
C. 24
D. 16
Correct answer C.
My question is why? If there was one more answer for ie: E: 25... What the correct answer would be in this case?

By going to 25 you are borrowing one bit from the last octet. The whole concept of subnetting can not be really explained in a post so this is a good starting point.
