As for raisins in bobotie, wouldn't a green apple be better? Or maybe okra?Yuk, No way. Raisins, ground or chopped almonds (I prefer ground), chutney and enough curry powder to give it some zing. There should never be sugar added. I sometimes leave the raisins out of the main recipe and toss a handful in with the rice.
Okra would completely change the texture, and I suspect not in a good way. It should be quite firm anyway.
... but I suspect that would be more like a gumbo than bobotie.
Gumbo and bobotie have just about nothing in common (other than that they both have meat, are spiced and are both served with rice).

Ouch! I left myself open :blush:.
I wouldn't eat it raw on weekdays, and certainly not at weekends. I've never considered it on other days, so maybe ....
