Hi.
We have the following probelm:
After a reboot the linked server seems to be lost... you can still see the linked server, but you can't get data with a query.
After entering the password into the connection information in the Management Studio it works until the next reboot and so on.
We tried to rebuilt the connection via script after the reboot - same problem.
Anyone the same experience?
Thx

Which OLEDB provider are you using?

We are currently using IBM DA SQL iSeries

We've had much trouble with that provider, try Hit OLEDB/400.
Are you working with four-part names or openquery? It makes a big difference. If you're not able to query data with openquery maybe it's an authentication issue, but if it timeouts with four-part names it could be something different, involving table sizes and other stuff like that.

Hi.
We are using openquery.
But it looks like that the sql server "looses" the password or another idea is, that there is a service or dll or dcom necessary, which is automatically started by the management studio but not by the execution of the script.

Can you post here the error message you're getting?
I would also need to know the options you set in the provider and linked server dialogs.
