Greetings,
I have 3 drives and am trying to install SQL Server [Program Files] on Drive D and [Data Files] on drive E. Drive C is nowhere in the picture. But still why does the installation program creates a [Program Files\SQL Server\80] COM and Tools folder in C Drive. I'm not able to figure it out. Any ideas?

Because like it or not, SQL Server is going to install some files on the system drive. That's why when you do the install and you specify file paths you'll still see bytes being used on said drive.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the inputs. I agree if they are system files which are related to OS and its logical too but if they are program files or tools or other lib/bin files related to SQL it should go to the specific drive which we specify, otherwise what's the meaning of the screen which prompts you to specify the drive for installation?

Because it gives you a choice of where the bulk of the files go. However, the way the SQL Server package is built, some files will go to the system drive, even files you'd think logically could be anywhere. It's a pet peeve of mine, too.
