We are running SQL Query analyser to write stored procedure code, yet on saving code, from time to time, query analyser locks up and requires us to end the task from the windows NT task manager.
We are running Windows NT version 4 on Pentium Celeron 1.7 processors with 256 meg of ram. SP3 version 8.00.760 of SQL enterprise edition is installed.
This problem happens intermittently on all our developers PC's and at different times of the day, from early morning with little load on the processor to times of heavier use during the day. Any idea what could be causing the problem and how to fix it would be appreciated.

Could be NT4. Never had issues with W2K or XP.

It could also be an issue related to attempting to save the query accross the network especially if you have the Nortel client installed on the machines involved.

There's a known interaction with Visual Studio Analyzer - probably not your problem. See KB Article 298828.
This probably is - see KB # 830767 or http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;830767&Product=sql2k
The good news is that I found this by having to end the process, it sent the fault to microsoft automatically and sent me to this KB article. That's really great, and kudos to Microsoft.
The bad part is I HAVE TO CALL THEM ON THE PHONE, INITIALLY PAY FOR SUPPORT TO GET THE FIX, then beg for a refund. If they HAVE a fix to a common problem, why can't they post it?!?!?!

Thanks for the above posts. We have assumed it is network related but haven't been able to pin it down. Further posts still welcome if anyone else has had this problem and resolved.
Thanks
Stephen
